Baby boy 7-8-09

‘nother BOY!!! (Do ya see it?)

It’ll be My Three Sons, I guess. I have to say that my initial reaction was something like, “hpmphmmhph” but as the day wore on, I became more and more ok with it. It isn’t so much that I don’t want another boy, just that my chance at a daughter is now over. I did talk to Big N tonight, and he seems excited. He already has one of each so I don’t think he had an opinion either way.

But my gawd, I’m going to have to think up even more Boys names, I had trouble enough with the first two. Got any ideas? I think N and I are having a bit of a culture clash over names. He thinks the most plain, nerdy American names are cool (Arthur, Charles, Peter) and thinks the most odd (to me) Swedish names are cool (Olof, Elmer, Hans). He wants something that will translate well to both cultures…it gets tricky. It might take a bit to bridge this gap. But he did easily agree (heh, as if he had a choice at this point) to my last name protocol. Same thing I did with A and N, which is [First Name][Father's Last Name as Middle Name] [My Last Name]. They live with, travel with, get enrolled with, have doctor’s records with me as their primary caregiver. They get MY last name. It only makes sense.

Other than that, everything is fine. The kid is about 6 inches (head to butt) and weighs about 8 oz. All is on schedule. We did the big anatonomical ultrasound that was a LOOOONG time to have someone jamming a blunt object into your bladder, but not near as long as the twins one. Actually, everything about being pregnant with one is so simple compared to the twins. I got some skepticism last appointment for losing 5 pounds but gained 2 back so they are happy about that and my blood pressure is excellent. My kidneys remain stable. After all the drama from my last pregnancy, I think I’m boring the Peri to death. I think he wants more excitement. I’m happy with things being mundane.

Oh, Aaron’s suggestion for a baby name? Sloke. Yes, Sloke. I guess that would be how you spell it. He is adamant. I have no idea where that word even came from.

CONGRATULATIONS! How fun to have a houseful of boys! FWIW, I think “Hans” is a really cool name.

I THINK the name “Eric” (or “Erik”) is common in both countries.

Congrats–I’m a mom of 3 boys (singleton and twins) and I love it. I’m so not girly, I wouldn’t know what to do with one. Except name one–I had lots of great girl names.

No clue on boy names, though; we had a very hard time with that ourselves. We were so desparate for a name for twin Baby B that we started asking everyone we met, even total strangers, what their name was. Eventually we went with the name of our busboy at a local restaurant. It’s not a story I plan to tell said child.

Congratulations! I was so sure he was a girl, not that I had any evidence to support this.

My son is named August, a name I particularly like. :) I think that name is found in Sweden. I seem to remember someone’s Swedish grandfather being named August.

And I like how Aaron, Naim and August sound together.

    Congratulations!

Sloke is a pretty funny name.

Haha, okay first of all CONGRATS! You are going to have so much fun together.

Secondly, your attempt at an “anonymous” blog is totally hilarious. I know you never intended it to be all that anonymous anyway, but your real name is on your ultrasound shots, and of course the pictures you post give you away. The password protect is good though.

Just thought I’d point it out.

    Have a great weekend!

Kate, I’m totally lazy and ambivalent about the anon thing. I know. It’s more like, I don’t want the guy I crushed on in the 10th grade to google me. Rather than caring so much if you guys know who I am (y’all already knew anyway.) Since my name in the U/S pic isn’t searchable, and I’m not good enough with photoshop to smear it out, I’m not that concerned about it.

Congratulations! So happy that you and the baby are healthy. Don’t worry about the boring the perinatolgist, we love boring in obstetrics. Boring usually means good outcomes.

I had to laugh with the gender reveal. We have similar reproductive histories, albiet yours is Mt Everest to my molehill. Anyhoo ART was required to result in two lively kiddos and we were DONE. Somehow two days after I gave away all my baby stuff to my preggo sister, I found my infertile body was suddenly fertile and gestating a baby. I ws rooting for a girl this last time around (my daughter prays every night for Jesus to give her a baby sister and a palm tree). I am close to you in gestational age. Recently we found out that Jesus’ answer was “no” to her first request, but we are still holding out for that palm tree.

    Hooray! Congratulations!

I’m glad the pregnancy is going well and he’s a healthy little guy!

I have two boys 17 months apart in age. Boys are fun. Crazy… Loud… Messy… And fun. But you know that already. I’m sure daughters are awesome too, but I’ve just got sons and I love it.

Yay! Boys are really fun. I know several families with 3 boys and it is chaotic and crazy, but also really, really fun.
I have no name suggestions whatsoever.
    Congrats!

Congratulations! I would just love it if I could have a third boy… not gonna happen. Just think, you can use all the hand-me-downs!

We also dealt with finding a name that works in two languages, and I would recommend looking at all the traditional English names, especially Biblical, since that seemed to give the best yield of names that worked in both languages – and then you can just use the Swedish spelling, since English is so forgiving. We ended up not choosing anything traditionally English (Olaf and Finn), but there were a lot of options – Alexander, Benjamin, Nicholas, Thomas, Andrew/Andreas, Lucas…

Wow–those are some great names! I love Finn, and Alexander, Benjamin, Andreas, AND Lucas! I’m kind of imagining it won’t be Nicholas/Niklas, no?

I think you are dealing fabulously with all of the recent events.

I looked up Swedish baby name sites, and these are the names I liked best: Anton, Noah, Fisk, Karl, Lukas, Sten, Hale, Matteus, Navn.

    BS”D

Congratulations to the little baby boy!

Stella. Yes, Niklas is the Swedish equivalent of Nicolas.

Lindar. Fisk, Hale and Navn are not Swedish names.

The ten frequentest (is that a word?) boy names n Sweden 2008 was: Lukas/Lucas, Oskar/Oscar, William, Elias, Hugo, Alexander, Erik/Eric, Isak/Isaac, Filip/Philip and Emil. You can find the whole list here: http://www.alltforforaldrar.se/kul/namntoppen?utm_source=extlink&utm_medium=namntoppen&utm_campaign=svenskanamn but the site is in Swedish so I guess that will not help you.

    Hey L,

I saw this blurb and thought of you. “New Technology Allows Parents To Hold A Life-Size Model Of Their Unborn Child” — seems like a great idea for blind folks.
